At least four people were killed and 25 others injured in a major road accident on the Delhi-Agra Expressway in Mathura on Tuesday morning, after seven buses and three cars collided in dense fog, officials said.

Poor visibility due to thick fog led to the massive multi-vehicle pile-up, with several vehicles crashing into one another during the early hours of the day. One of the vehicles caught fire following the collision, causing panic among passengers trapped inside.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that search and rescue operations were nearing completion. Efforts were also underway to clear the highway and safely transport stranded passengers.

"Around 4 a.m. today, eight buses and three smaller vehicles collided. Four people lost their lives, and at least 25 others were injured and admitted to the district hospital. None of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving medical care," the SSP told reporters.

He added that the dense fog and poor visibility were the primary causes of the chain collision. A few vehicles caught fire during the crash, worsening the situation.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh described the accident as “very unfortunate” and said relief operations were in full swing to ensure prompt medical care for the injured. He added that the exact cause of the collision would be investigated later.

This incident follows a similar fog-related multi-vehicle crash on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Monday morning, which involved around 20 vehicles. That accident claimed four lives, including two police personnel, and left 15–20 people seriously injured.

Officials have expressed growing concerns over road safety during winter months, warning motorists to exercise caution as thick fog reduces visibility and increases the risk of such accidents.
