Tripura Police have detained five Bangladeshi nationals and three Indian touts over the past 24 hours from different locations in the West Tripura district, including Agartala and Amtali, for their alleged involvement in illegal cross-border movement and human trafficking.
According to police sources, East Agartala Police Station on Friday apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian tout from the North Gate area of Agartala city.
“Based on a tip-off about suspicious movement of two women near North Gate, police launched an operation and detained two Bangladeshi women along with a local man. During interrogation, it was revealed that the women had illegally entered Tripura with the help of the man. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law,” officials said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ruma Sheikh and Aklima Akhter, both Bangladeshi nationals, and Krishna Debnath, a resident of Notunbazar in Gomati district, who is suspected to have facilitated their illegal entry.
In a separate operation late Thursday night, Amtali Police—assisted by intelligence personnel—intercepted four people at a naka point on the Amtali Bypass Road near the police station.
“Three Bangladeshi nationals—Chan Mia, Mamata Khatun, and Rina Khatun—were found to have illegally entered Tripura with the help of an Indian woman tout, Firoza Khatun, a resident of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district,” police said.
The group was reportedly heading toward Agartala Railway Station en route to Delhi in search of work when police apprehended them. All four were arrested and booked under multiple legal provisions. They have been produced before the court following due legal procedures.
