An eight-year-old boy, Azmir Islam, died after drowning in a river near Nabinagar Mukhtar Hossain Para (Bazarpara) in Bishalgarh. His body was recovered on Monday afternoon after an extensive search by Fire and Emergency Services personnel and NDRF teams.

According to local residents, Azmir had gone to the riverbank with his elder brother on Sunday afternoon. The child reportedly fell into the river while playing near the water and was quickly swept away by the current. Residents alerted the emergency services, following which rescue teams reached the area and began searching for him.

The search continued for several hours on Sunday but was unsuccessful. The operation resumed on Monday morning, and the rescuers eventually located and recovered the child’s body from the river around noon.

The incident has triggered grief among residents of the area. At the same time, some locals alleged that the rescue operation lacked the urgency they expected. They also claimed that certain personnel were seen using mobile phones to record videos during the search, raising questions about the conduct of the operation.

Residents have urged the authorities to strengthen emergency response mechanisms and ensure that rescue operations following drowning incidents are carried out swiftly and efficiently to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
