Tripura Police under Sonamura Police Station on Wednesday afternoon arrested a drug peddler and seized 12.96 grams of heroin from his residence, officials said.
Police recovered the contraband hidden inside a soap case during the raid. Along with the heroin, his passport, mobile phone, Rs 11,260 believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking, and a motorcycle (registration number TR-08E-5019) allegedly used for transporting narcotics were also seized.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to selling heroin to young men and women in the Sonamura area.
The arrested individual has been identified as Kabir Hossain Sarkar (38), a resident of Rangamati, Ward No. 5, under Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala district.
A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Police said further arrests are likely in connection with the case.
Sarkar will be produced before the Court with a prayer for police remand, police sources confirmed.
