A dramatic incident unfolded at GB Hospital on Thursday when a Bangladeshi national in police custody attempted to escape while undergoing medical treatment. The swift action of on-duty police personnel, however, ensured that he was quickly recaptured, preventing a major security lapse.

The accused has been identified as Sajal Rishi Das, a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh. He had earlier been arrested on charges of illegally crossing the India-Bangladesh border and was lodged at Bishalgarh Central Correctional Facility. Due to illness, he was brought to GB Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, Das tried to flee by taking advantage of the situation during his treatment at the hospital. However, alert police personnel acted promptly and managed to apprehend him before he could escape.

The incident has raised concerns over the adequacy of security arrangements, particularly in handling foreign nationals detained for illegal border crossing. Questions are being raised about possible lapses in supervision and monitoring.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the escape attempt occurred and whether there was any negligence on the part of security personnel. Further details are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
