The Government of India has announced the appointment of Dr. Debabrata Das, Advisor in the Higher Education Department, Government of Assam, as the new Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, Agartala.
According to an official order issued by the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, the appointment has been made by the Hon'ble President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of Tripura University.
Dr. Das will serve as the Vice-Chancellor for a term of five years from the date he assumes office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
The Ministry stated that the terms and conditions of his service will be governed by the provisions of the Tripura University Act, Statutes, Ordinances, and other applicable regulations of the University.
The appointment order, dated July 2, 2026, was issued by Shreya Bhardwaj, Deputy Secretary to the Government of India, and addressed to the Registrar of Tripura University.
