A daring theft at two houses in the Tebaria area under the Bamutia Police Outpost has created panic among local residents. Miscreants allegedly stole rubber sheets worth over Rs 1 lakh from the two houses during the same night.
According to reports, a group of thieves broke into the residence of local resident Achal Mani Biswas late at night and fled with rubber sheets valued at around Rs 80,000. The incident has left the family and nearby residents shocked.
Speaking to reporters, Achal Mani Biswas said that this was not the first such incident. About two years ago, rubber sheets worth nearly Rs 1 lakh were stolen from his house. Expressing frustration over the repeated theft, he urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest those responsible at the earliest.
In a similar incident on the same night, thieves also targeted the house of Biswas' nephew. According to the family, rubber sheets worth approximately ₹35,000 to ₹38,000 were stolen from the premises.
Residents alleged that a series of thefts has taken place in the area over the past few months. They claimed that despite repeated incidents, effective action has not been taken against the culprits, leading to growing anger and a sense of insecurity among the local community.
Family members revealed that Achal Mani Biswas' son's wedding is scheduled to take place in the next two to three days, and preparations were in full swing. They suspect that the thieves deliberately took advantage of the situation and carried out the theft in a planned manner.
Demanding immediate action, local residents have urged the administration to conduct a fair investigation, identify and arrest the accused, and strengthen police patrolling in the area to prevent further incidents.
