The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has suspended BJYM Unakoti District President Arup Dhar with immediate effect following allegations of immoral activities that allegedly tarnished the party’s image.
In an official order issued by Amit Rakshit, General Secretary of BJP Tripura, Dhar has been placed under suspension pending submission of a written explanation regarding the allegations against him. The order stated that the decision was taken as per the direction of the BJP Tripura Pradesh State President.
The suspension letter noted that allegations had been received claiming Dhar was involved in activities considered detrimental to the party’s image. As a result, he has been suspended for alleged gross misconduct until further clarification.
Dhar has been asked to submit his written explanation to the BJP Pradesh Office in Agartala on or before March 18, 2026.
The development comes a couple of days after a married woman accused Dhar of luring her into an illicit relationship and later allegedly mistreating her. According to sources, the woman has also lodged a complaint against him at a local police station, prompting the controversy within party circles.
Party sources indicated that further action will depend on Dhar’s explanation and the outcome of the complaint filed with the police.
