Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Monday alleged that he was attacked by individuals linked to the Tipra Motha Party while he was engaged in election-related activities in Mungiakami, under Khowai district, on Sunday evening.
Calling the incident “deeply unfortunate,” Debbarma said the incident occurred around 8 PM when he visited a party worker’s residence. According to him, a group led by Alen Debbarma suddenly launched an assault.
“The attackers vandalized the house of my party worker and continued their violent actions for nearly an hour,” he stated.
The minister claimed that the incident around nine motorcycles were damaged and three houses were ransacked. He further alleged that the হামলা was an attempt on his life.
“They tried to kill me. Such violent politics has no future. I appeal to everyone to maintain peace ahead of the TTAADC elections,” Debbarma said.
He also stressed that the public will exercise their voting rights peacefully and condemned the rising incidents of violence in the state.
“People have already made up their minds about whom to vote for. Violence is unacceptable, and the law will take its own course,” he added.
Debbarma said that police later reached the spot and ensured his safety.
“Their intention was clearly to eliminate me. BJP workers believe in peaceful democratic practices, not violence,” he concluded.
