Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha today claimed that many BJP workers who had joined the party with the intention of contributing to development are now leaving it due to large-scale corruption and vindictive politics by ruling party leaders.
Saha made this statement during a program held at the Pradesh Congress headquarters in Agartala, where 17 voters from five families of the Boxanagar Assembly Constituency joined the Congress on Wednesday.
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha personally welcomed the new members by handing over the party flag as a symbol of their induction into the party.
Among those who joined Congress were Dilawar Hossain and Mahabul Hossain from CPI(M), and Shiraj Miya, Abdul Haque, and Abu Hemal from the BJP.
“Today, five leaders along with 17 voters from the Boxanagar Assembly Constituency left the BJP and CPI(M) to join the Congress. Those who had earlier joined the BJP with hopes of working for the development of the state are now completely sidelined. BJP public representatives are indulging in vindictive politics and are deeply involved in corruption. When these people raised their voices against it, they were subjected to torture and attacks,” Saha said.
He further added that under these circumstances, the Congress is emerging as a viable alternative that is working for people across communities and sections of society.
“The Congress has begun its efforts to oust the BJP from both the Centre and the state. In Tripura, we are strengthening our organisation, and today's induction is a reflection of that. An autocratic atmosphere has taken root in the Boxanagar Assembly Constituency. Opposition leaders and workers are being targeted, women are being attacked, and extortion is rampant,” he added.
