Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure a win in the upcoming Dharmanagar by-election scheduled for April 9.

He stated that the party’s central leadership has selected Jwahar Chakraborty as its candidate, highlighting his long-standing association with the BJP and his clean image. “He has been with the party for many years and is a gentleman. I have personally worked with him during party activities in Dharmanagar. He is well-known among the people, which gives us an advantage,” Dr. Saha said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the BJP approaches every election with seriousness and dedication. With both the by-election and district council polls approaching, he noted that the party is actively preparing for both.

“We have been working continuously for development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We will take these achievements to the people, and that will ensure our victory,” he added.

Referring to opposition parties, Dr. Saha mentioned that while CPI(M) has announced its candidate, Congress is facing internal challenges. “This will not affect us. We have fielded a strong candidate and are confident of winning the seat,” he asserted.

On the issue of Village Committee (VC) elections, the Chief Minister said that the BJP has already performed well. He explained that the party had suggested conducting VC and ADC elections separately to avoid logistical challenges. “We proposed holding the elections in September considering the monsoon season, but the Supreme Court has suggested June. The matter is under review,” he said.

Dr. Saha reiterated that development and strong grassroots connections will be key factors in BJP’s expected success in the Dharmanagar by-election.
