Bangladeshi Youth nabbed with banned cough syrup in Agartala city

Acting on a tip-off, the Tripura Police of Ram Nagar outpost police today arrested a Bangladeshi national from Agartala’s Lankamura area for possessing a large quantity of intoxicating cough syrup.

Second Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station, Shyam Shankar Reang, told reporters that the arrest was made during an afternoon patrol operation. 

Based on specific intelligence, the police intercepted the youth and recovered 25 bottles of banned cough syrup from him.

The accused has been identified as Hossain Mia, a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh. 

The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 25,000 in the black market.

Following the arrest, the youth was taken to West Agartala Police Station, where a case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the contraband and determine its intended destination.
