A Bangladeshi youth was detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) while allegedly attempting to enter Tripura illegally through the Jaipur border area.
He was later handed over to the police of West Agartala Police Station for further legal action.
According to BSF sources, jawans of the 42 Battalion deployed in the Lankamura area noticed two individuals trying to cross the international border illegally during a routine patrol. The personnel managed to apprehend one of them, while the other person reportedly managed to flee.
The detained individual has been identified as Saimon Mia, a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh.
Following his detention, the youth was handed over to the police at West Agartala Police Station. The officer-in-charge of the police station stated that the accused is currently being interrogated. Authorities are investigating the reasons behind his illegal entry into India and the route he used to cross the border.
Police officials also said that he will be produced before a court, and a request for police remand will be made for further questioning.
The incident has once again raised concerns over illegal infiltration along the Tripura border. However, authorities have assured that strict surveillance and patrols are being maintained along the border to prevent such incidents.
