In a bid to transform the healthcare landscape of Tripura through alternative medicine, Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday announced that the state government is actively working to establish a dedicated Homeopathy Medical College.
The initiative, he said, is a part of the broader vision to strengthen the state's homeopathic infrastructure and address long-standing challenges in the sector.
Speaking at the state-level celebration of World Homeopathy Day 2025 at Prajna Bhavan, Dr. Saha revealed that discussions have already begun with a group of external investors who expressed interest in setting up the medical college.
“This step will not only boost the credibility of homeopathy in Tripura but also generate local employment and reduce the dependency on other states for homeopathic education and services,” Dr. Saha said.
While acknowledging the gaps in public awareness about homeopathy, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of outreach, education, and the need to showcase successful cases of treatment.
“Homeopathy doesn’t work overnight, but it offers sustainable, long-term results. Many patients have benefitted from it without needing surgical intervention,” he said.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership since 2014 for reviving focus on homeopathy under the Ministry of AYUSH, and added that homeopathic medicine’s lack of adverse reactions makes it a safe and viable option for patients.
Dr. Saha also announced that the government is planning to recruit additional homeopathy doctors soon to meet growing demand. “Currently, 173 Homeopathy Medical Officers are serving across different departments in the state. We’re committed to increasing that number and expanding our services further, including setting up an integrated AYUSH hospital in Sabroom Sub-division,” he said.
Senior officials including Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Additional Secretary Rajiv Dutta, Director of Health Dr. Tapan Majumder, and others from the medical fraternity attended the event, marking a collective push towards integrating homeopathy more deeply into Tripura’s healthcare system.
