Tripura’s Belonia District and Session judge court sent 7 Bangladeshi nationals to 12 days of Judicial Custody after they were arrested for illegally entering Tripura by crossing the international border on Saturday late night in Belonia under South District.
According to police sources, the group entered Tripura through the Amjad Nagar area, which lies adjacent to Belonia town.
“Based on a secret tip-off, a team led by Belonia Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rishabh and Officer-in-Charge of Belonia Police Station, Shibu Ranjan Dey, intercepted an Eco Maruti car at a naka checking point in the Manurmukh Tabla Chowmuhoni area. Upon checking the vehicle, seven Bangladeshi nationals were found and subsequently detained,” a police official said.
During preliminary interrogation, all seven individuals confessed to being residents of Bangladesh. They also claimed that an unidentified individual had assisted them in crossing the border in exchange for money.
“We have registered a case against them and produced them before the court, seeking police remand for further investigation,” the police added.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Robin Hossain (29), Mohammad Rafi (25), Amjad Hossain (27), Shahidur Jjaman (28), Fazzal (24), Rehan Mollah (21), and Gias Uddin (35).
Police also seized seven Android mobile phones, one keypad mobile, ₹1.64 lakh in Indian currency, and 1,01,935 Bangladeshi Taka from their possession.
