In celebration of Poila Boishakh, the Tripura Fisheries Department has announced plans to sell approximately 6,000 kilograms of fish across the state at subsidized rates on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das acknowledged that while the quantity may not fully meet public demand, the initiative aims to provide high-quality fish at affordable prices as part of an annual tradition.
“This initiative has become a customary part of Poila Boishakh celebrations. The fish will be sourced directly from government-run farms and made available at 21 designated sales points from 8 AM onwards,” said the minister.
The sale will cover locations across all districts of the state, including Kanchanpur, Panisagar, Ganganagar, and Dharmanagar in North Tripura; Kumarghat and Fatikroy in Unakoti; Karamcherra and Kamalpur in Dhalai; Ganki and Teliamura in Khowai; Jirania, Mohanpur, and Gol Bazar (Agartala) in West Tripura; Kalamchoura, Kamalasagar, Udaipur, and Amarpur in Gomati; and Santirbazar and Sabroom in South Tripura.
A variety of fish will be on offer, including Katla, Rohu, Mrigel, Kalibaush, and Silver Carp. Prices have been set significantly lower than market rates.
“Rohu, Katla, Kalibaush, Silver Carp below 1 kg is Rs220, 1–2 kg is Rs 250 and above 2 kg is Rs350 while Mrigel and Carp below 1 kg is Rs 200, 1–2 kg is Rs 220 and above 2 kg is Rs 350 and Hilsa would be sold 800 gram to 1 kg is Rs 1200 and 1.5 kg is Rs 1500”, the minister said.
“All these varieties will be sold under the supervision of the Fisheries Department. Our goal is to ensure the availability of fresh, quality fish to the public at rates well below the prevailing market prices,” Das added.
