Acting on a tip-off, Baijal Bari police set up surveillance at Belfang Naka Point on Friday afternoon to intercept a vehicle suspected of transporting ganja. Around 2:30 p.m., officers stopped a Maruti car bearing registration number TR 04 A 0342.
Upon being intercepted, the two occupants abandoned the car and attempted to flee.
Police managed to apprehend one suspect, identified as Subrata Debnath, while the other managed to escape.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 70 packets of dried ganja, concealed inside the car’s door panels. Officer-in-Charge of Baijal Bari Police Station, Jugal Tripura, confirmed that the total seizure weighed 37 kilograms.
Since the establishment of Baijal Bari Police Station, several consignments of illegal ganja and other narcotics have been seized under its jurisdiction. Police sources said drug traffickers are using the Khowai subdivision as a corridor for smuggling narcotics.
In response, the Khowai Subdivision Police Administration has intensified vigilance, particularly at naka points, leading to a string of recent drug seizures. Authorities have reiterated that such operations will continue in order to curb illegal narcotics trafficking in the region.
