A day after a driver was allegedly lynched by a mob inside a tea garden in Tripura’s Unakoti district, police on Wednesday have detained 13 individuals in connection with the incident as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to a senior police official, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Kalishasan Tea Garden area when a vehicle reportedly hit a tea garden worker. 

The collision triggered outrage among local residents, who allegedly attacked and beat the driver—identified as 35-year-old Pradip Das—to death.

The injured tea garden worker suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured leg, police said.

Following the incident, Unakoti District Superintendent of Police Sudhamvika R., Additional SP V. Darlong, and SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, along with a significant deployment of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, were rushed to the area to prevent further violence and ensure law and order.

“Thirteen individuals have been detained in connection with the mob lynching and brought to Kailashahar police station for questioning,” the senior officer said.

Police also confirmed that Pradip Das’s body was recovered nearly a kilometre from the accident site. A detailed investigation is currently underway.
