Tripura’s royal scion and Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday stated that the idea of 'Greater Tipraland' could extend into Bangladesh, citing the presence of a significant indigenous population across the border.
He called upon the Government of India to empower indigenous communities—not only within Tripura but also those residing in the surrounding region and across the international border in Bangladesh.
Pradyot’s comments came in the backdrop of recent attacks in Bangladesh on outlets of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Bata, which were reportedly targeted amid growing anger over the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Taking to social media platform X, Pradyot condemned the attacks, stating, “Only cowards attack KFC, Pizza Hut, and Bata to prove their strength.”
He further added, “There are lakhs of Bangladeshi citizens who earn a livelihood working abroad in these franchises or by supplying garments consumed by the West. This mindset is what concerns us in the Northeast, as these people live just a few miles away and aim to see us landlocked.”
Pradyot reiterated that it is crucial for the Indian government to uplift and protect indigenous voices across the region. “Greater Tipraland is possible across the border, with so many of our people living there,” he asserted.
