A group of women from the Banduwar–Chatraifang area under Udaipur subdivision in Gomati district staged a road blockade on Monday demanding a permanent solution to the long-standing drinking water crisis in the locality.
The protesters blocked the main road in the area during the morning hours, leading to heavy tension and disrupting vehicular movement for some time.
According to local residents, the area has been facing an irregular supply of drinking water for a long period. Despite repeated complaints to the concerned department, no permanent solution has been provided so far. The situation has worsened amid the intense summer heat, increasing frustration among the residents.
After receiving information about the protest, DWS Sub-Divisional Officer Shantanu Kumar Das reached the spot and held discussions with the agitators. He assured them that necessary steps would be taken to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Following the assurance from the administration, members of the Pramila Bahini eventually withdrew the road blockade.
