Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said that people who think attacking others will help in strengthening their party are wrong because this is a sign of weakness.
Sarkar said this after visiting the residence of CPIM leader Tapan Das in Jirania, which was reportedly attacked by BJP-backed goons.
After inspecting the house and taking reports, Sarkar said that they were unable to understand why such an attack was carried out.
“Centering this house, CPIM was established in the Jirania area. When I was involved in student politics, I used to come to this house. The father of Tapan Das was our leader and always tried to stay beside people who were in trouble without seeing any political affiliation. Everyone used to respect and love him. All of a sudden, this house came under attack; however, this is politically motivated. I heard that ruling party leaders and workers came here, expressed their dissatisfaction, conveyed their apology to them, and also extended financial help to restore the vandalized items,” he said.
Sarkar said people are doing politics under various affiliations and remain committed to their own parties.
“Why resort to violence? Those who launched this attack for strengthening the party’s power are showing nothing but weakness. This is nothing but a sign of weakness. We are hopeful that the people of Jirania will stay united and peaceful,” he added.
