VC poll results show people reject CPI(M)-Congress ideology, trust NDA: CM

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the results of the Village Committee (VC) elections have once again demonstrated that the people of Tripura have rejected the ideology of the CPI(M) and Congress and reposed their faith in the NDA.

Dr. Saha said he had earlier predicted that the NDA would secure more than 90 per cent of the seats in the VC elections, and the results had proved his assessment right.

“We were repeatedly told that we had worked in the same way as before. But when we went to the people, we received even more support than we expected. This is good for Tripura. Going forward, we hope to work together in both the plains and the hills for the overall development of the state,” he said.

The Chief Minister also urged the opposition parties to introspect over their electoral setbacks and understand why voters were repeatedly rejecting them.

“I would tell the opposition once again to think about why this is happening to them. Their thinking and the ideology they continue to rely on have been rejected by the people. This is being proved again and again,” Dr. Saha said.

He said the electorate was well aware of its needs and expectations from the government and various institutions.

“People know what they want, what they need and what they expect from the government and different levels of governance. But the opposition has failed to understand the aspirations of the people. They continue to speak about traditional issues and promises that have become outdated,” he said.

Dr. Saha further criticised the opposition for questioning the electoral process after facing defeat.

“Whenever they lose an election, they blame the EVMs or the Election Commission. The same thing has been repeated after the declaration of the Village Committee election results. They should instead introspect and understand the message given by the people,” he added.
