Tripura Police arrested two youths and recovered 18 kg of ganja from their possession during a routine patrol at the College Tilla Lake area under East Agartala Police Station on Monday morning.
According to East Agartala Police Station OC Krishnadhan Sarkar, police personnel were conducting routine checking and patrolling in the College Tilla area when they noticed two youths carrying backpacks.
When police asked them to stop, the duo allegedly continued walking towards Jogendranagar Railway Station, raising suspicion. Police subsequently intercepted them and searched their backpacks.
During the search, police recovered six packets containing a total of 18 kg of ganja, the OC said.
Police suspect that the consignment was being transported through the railway route for illegal shipment outside the state. The two youths were arrested and a case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the law.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband, its intended destination and whether other individuals were involved in the alleged trafficking network. The arrested persons are being questioned in connection with the case, police said.
