Drug Bust in Tripura: Two Arrested with 875 Bottles of Banned Cough Syrup Worth Rs 10 Lakh

Airport Police have arrested two persons and recovered 875 bottles of prohibited cough syrup, valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh in the black market, following a raid at Nabagram Chowmuhani on Wednesday night.

Police sources said the operation was carried out after receiving confidential information about the alleged storage of narcotic substances at the residences of Shubhankar Saha and Dipankar Saha. Acting on the tip-off, a police team under Airport Police Station conducted a search at their houses and seized the consignment of illegal cough syrup. Both individuals were subsequently taken into custody.

According to police, the seized cough syrup has an estimated black market value of around Rs 10 lakh. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, residents of the locality have alleged that the two arrested persons had been involved in unlawful activities for a considerable period. They claimed that such activities were reportedly taking place in the area for a long time and questioned why action had not been initiated earlier.

Locals also suspect that the arrested duo may not be the only persons involved in the alleged racket. They believe that a detailed interrogation could help investigators identify other people associated with the illegal trade.

The police are now expected to investigate the source of the seized cough syrup and examine whether the arrested individuals were part of a larger network involved in the distribution of prohibited substances.
