Tripura Police have arrested two men from Bihar in connection with a gold chain snatching incident involving an elderly woman in the Tailorban area under Srimnagar ADC Village on Wednesday afternoon.
Reports say the accused entered the house of an elderly woman, Radha Rani Debbarma, pretending to offer dishwashing services. When they found her alone, they allegedly stole a gold chain from her neck and fled.
The woman raised an alarm, after which local residents rushed to the spot. People from the Kanchanmala market area were informed and quickly organized a search. Soon after, the suspects arrived in the area on a motorcycle, but were intercepted and caught by locals, who detained them before handing them over to police.
Police from Amatali station reached the location and recovered the stolen gold chain. The motorcycle used in the crime, bearing registration number BR39 AH 8350, was also seized.
A complaint was later lodged by the victim’s son, Parimal Debbarma. Authorities identified the accused as Pawan Kumar and Nitish Kumar, both from Katihar district in Bihar.
Preliminary investigation suggests the duo may have been involved in similar incidents in nearby areas, where they allegedly used the same trick of posing as dish cleaners to target households.
The accused are set to be produced before the court on Thursday.
