Tripura is gearing up to celebrate the fifth edition of the nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign from August 9 to 17, with a wide range of patriotic events, cultural programmes and public participation initiatives to mark the occasion across the state.
Announcing the programme at a press conference on Friday, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Kiran Gitte, said the campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, has evolved into a nationwide people's movement, inspiring citizens to proudly hoist the National Flag and reaffirm their commitment to the nation.
He informed that this year's campaign will be organised under the theme "Commemoration of 150 Years of Vande Mataram", paying tribute to one of India's most iconic patriotic songs and its enduring role in the country's freedom movement.
As part of the celebrations, the National Flag will be hoisted at homes, government and private offices, educational institutions, commercial establishments and other public places across the state. Memorials dedicated to freedom fighters and national icons will also be adorned with the Tricolour as a mark of respect and remembrance.
The state-level inaugural programme will be held on August 11 at Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, where Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha will flag off a grand Tiranga Rally. Similar rallies and commemorative events will be organised simultaneously in all districts under the leadership of ministers designated by the state government.
A host of activities, including Tiranga Rallies, Tiranga Concerts, bike and cycle rallies, cultural performances, awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes, will be organised from the district level down to blocks, panchayats and villages to encourage widespread public participation. In Agartala, a special Tiranga Concert and an exhibition showcasing the spirit of patriotism will be held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on August 11.
Calling upon citizens to join the celebrations in large numbers, Gitte said the state government will distribute National Flags among the public to ensure maximum participation. He also noted that Self Help Groups (SHGs) across Tripura are manufacturing National Flags in three different sizes, contributing to both the campaign and local livelihood generation.
Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, said the campaign will witness enthusiastic participation from schools, colleges, youth organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), voluntary groups and civil society organisations. He expressed confidence that the initiative would further strengthen the spirit of patriotism, unity and collective national pride among the people of Tripura.
