The West Tripura district administration has imposed prohibitory restrictions ahead of the Village Committee General Election-2026 under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with the objective of maintaining peace and preventing any disruption during the polling process.
The restrictions, issued by West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, will come into effect at 4 pm on September 26 and remain in force until 6 am on September 29, 2026. Polling for the Village Committee election will be held on September 28 from 7 am to 5 pm.
As per the order, gatherings of five or more persons have been prohibited across the district. The restrictions will also apply within a 200-metre radius of polling stations. Public meetings, rallies, processions, gatherings and public addresses, including those using loudspeakers, will not be permitted during the restricted period.
The administration has also barred the movement of two or more motorcycles or vehicles together where such movement constitutes an unlawful assembly. On polling day, entry into polling stations will be restricted to eligible voters and persons carrying valid passes issued by the competent election authorities.
The prohibitory order follows directions from the State Election Commission and has been issued in view of concerns over possible attempts to influence voters through the distribution of cash, gifts or liquor, besides preventing activities that may disturb public order or interfere with the conduct of the election.
Election personnel, CAPF and police forces deployed on election duty, authorised media representatives, government officials performing official duties and vehicles engaged in election-related activities have been exempted from the restrictions. Voters carrying valid identity cards will also be allowed to travel to their respective polling stations, subject to the prescribed conditions.
The order will not affect normal government and private office operations, educational activities, routine religious programmes, marriages, commercial transactions or regular passenger transport services.
The district administration has warned that anyone violating the prohibitory order will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
