Tripura’s overall crime rate dropped significantly in 2025, marking the lowest in the state over the past two decades, according to Director General of Police Anurag.
Speaking at a press conference today, the DGP highlighted that the total number of crimes fell by 8.3% compared to 2024.
In 2025, a total of 3,698 crimes were reported, down from 4,033 in 2024. Property-related offences saw a sharp decline of 16%, with 293 cases recorded compared to 349 the previous year. Murder cases decreased by 18%, falling to 95 from 116, while incidents of hurt and assault dropped 14%, with 699 cases in 2025 versus 815 in 2024. Riot cases fell 26%, from 23 to 17, and crimes against women declined from 724 to 665.
Road traffic accidents (RTA) also showed a notable reduction following special police drives. Total accidents dropped 8.8%, from 578 in 2024 to 520 in 2025, and fatalities fell by 14.5%, from 213 to 182. The DGP noted that Tripura’s accident rate remains well below the national average, with 12.35 accidents per lakh population in 2025 compared to 34.6 at the all-India level in 2023. Meanwhile, the number of registered vehicles in the state increased by 8%, rising from 8.11 lakh to 8.67 lakh.
DGP Anurag emphasized that enhanced police enforcement and improved detection contributed to the decline, with law enforcement activity increasing by 11%. Drug seizures also saw a substantial rise: cannabis seizures increased by 14%, cough syrup and tablet seizures rose by 145% and 26% respectively, and 95% more ganja plants were destroyed. Financial seizures jumped to Rs 1,636 crore in 2025, nearly double the Rs 849 crore recorded in 2024.
“This year, Tripura has set a historic low in crime over the last 20 years, reflecting the combined efforts of law enforcement and community cooperation,” the DGP said.
