Police in Tripura’s Kamalpur sub-division of Dhalai District have arrested one person after recovering a large quantity of cannabis during a vehicle search operation.
According to SI Debabrata Datta of Kamalpur Police Station, the operation was carried out after police received specific intelligence that a four-wheeler was travelling from Khowai District towards Kamalpur. Acting on the tip-off, a checkpoint was set up at the Srirampur naka point.
During the interception and search, police recovered 85.5 kg of ganja packed in 152 packets from the vehicle. Officers also found two number plates bearing the same Assam registration number inside the car, further raising suspicion of illegal activity.
The driver was arrested on the spot. Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the origin of the consignment and identify others involved in the smuggling network operating in the region.
