Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Sunday paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War by laying a wreath at the Albert Ekka War Memorial in Lichu Bagan, Agartala, on the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The solemn ceremony, organised by the Indian Army, was held as a mark of the nation's gratitude to the martyrs of Operation Vijay (1999), who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of India's sovereignty.

During the event, the Governor also felicitated Veer Naris (wives of martyred soldiers) in recognition of their courage, resilience and sacrifice. Addressing the media, he said, "We have gathered here today to pay tribute and respect to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the Kargil War."

The programme was attended by senior officers of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), West Tripura District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, retired Army personnel and other distinguished guests.

As part of the commemorative celebrations, the Indian Army's Spear Corps and Assam Rifles organised a series of patriotic and community outreach programmes at the war memorial.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, students, veterans, Veer Naris and members of the civil administration. The celebrations began with patriotic performances by the Army Symphony Band, followed by cultural programmes presented by artists from the Government of Tripura, paying tribute to the courage and valour of the Indian Armed Forces.

A Pipe Band display by the 21 Sector Assam Rifles showcased the precision, discipline and rich traditions of India's military. A documentary on Operation Vijay was screened, highlighting the bravery, determination and sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the Kargil conflict.

Informative exhibitions featuring the timeline of the war, key battles, gallantry award winners and significant milestones were displayed to educate the public, especially the younger generation, about the heroism of the Indian Army.

To promote awareness among students, an interactive Kargil Quiz Contest was organised, drawing enthusiastic participation from young learners.

As part of the welfare initiatives, a medical camp was conducted at the Military Hospital, Agartala, exclusively for veterans, Veer Naris and next of kin of soldiers. Specialist doctors offered health check-ups, consultations and medical advice, reaffirming the Army's commitment to the welfare of its veterans and their families.

The commemorative events concluded with a renewed message of patriotism, national unity and gratitude towards the Armed Forces, with the Indian Army and Assam Rifles reiterating their commitment to strengthening bonds with the people while inspiring future generations through the legacy of the Kargil heroes.
