Tripura Congress leaders on Monday joined a nationwide party demonstration in New Delhi, accusing the BJP of electoral malpractice and demanding the arrest and resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Led by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha, the state leaders participated in the protest under the leadership of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The protesters raised concerns over the conduct of elections and demanded accountability from the Election Commission.
Saha alleged that the BJP had secured victories in elections across the country through alleged manipulation and the misuse of constitutional institutions. He called for the immediate arrest and resignation of Gyanesh Kumar and also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged irregularities.
The TPCC president asserted that the Congress would continue its agitation if its demands were not addressed. He also urged citizens to support the movement, stating that safeguarding democracy and protecting the Constitution were essential.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said party leaders had assembled in the national capital with the slogan “No SIR”, opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanding its withdrawal.
Barman questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and alleged that electoral irregularities had undermined public confidence in the democratic process. He further accused the BJP of benefiting from alleged electoral manipulation and disregarding the concerns of voters.
