Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday stressed the importance of dedicated public service, stating that there is no substitute for hard work when it comes to ensuring people's welfare and development.
He praised the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) for its achievements over the past five years, saying that it had done more than expected in improving civic amenities and accelerating the overall development of the city.
“Agartala has witnessed a remarkable transformation compared to earlier times. The city's overall development is clearly visible, and today, Agartala has established itself as a smart city,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha made these remarks while attending an important meeting with the Mayor and all 51 corporators at the Agartala Municipal Corporation's conference hall on Tuesday. He was warmly welcomed by the Municipal Corporation upon his arrival.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister held discussions on various civic issues and reviewed the development works undertaken by the corporation. He also interacted with the corporators to understand the challenges faced in different wards and assess the progress of ongoing initiatives.
Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Saha noted that the AMC has 51 seats and that its five-year term is nearing completion, with the next municipal elections expected to be announced soon.
“I wanted to meet and interact with all 51 corporators. I had a special discussion with them, and in a way, this was also a courtesy meeting with all of them,” he said.
The Chief Minister lauded AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar for his efforts towards the city's development, appreciating the Mayor and his team for regularly taking stock of problems in different wards and working to resolve them.
“The Mayor and his entire team have consistently looked into the issues faced by residents in different wards and taken steps to address them. They have played an important role in resolving various civic problems and contributing to the city's development,” Dr. Saha said.
Emphasising that elections are part of the democratic process, the Chief Minister said that political positions and responsibilities may change over time, but public service must remain the priority.
“Elections will come and go. Some people may come, while others may leave. Some may continue in their existing positions. This is an ongoing process. We have to abide by whatever decision the party takes and fulfil the responsibilities assigned to us,” he said.
Recalling his own experience as a frontline functionary of the party, Dr. Saha reiterated that commitment to work and public welfare should always take precedence over everything else.
“Work is the ultimate priority, and there is no alternative to hard work. We must all dedicate ourselves to serving the people and working for their welfare,” he added.
AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, and corporators representing all wards of the Municipal Corporation were present at the meeting.
