Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday criticized the previous Left Front government for failing to address the growing drug menace in the state despite having sufficient information.
Speaking at the Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025 held at the Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex in Badharghat, Agartala, Dr. Saha called the drug issue “an international conspiracy” and highlighted the steps his government has taken to combat it.
“After assuming office, our government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and is actively seizing narcotics to make Tripura drug-free. However, the CPI(M) leaders, despite knowing the gravity of the situation, did not take any action during their tenure,” he said.
Dr. Saha also emphasized the importance of sports for the younger generation, saying it fosters discipline, confidence, and hard work. “Parents should encourage children to participate in sports. It helps maintain physical health, reduces stress, and nurtures a healthy mind in a healthy body,” he added.
The Chief Minister further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has discussed hosting the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Gujarat, stressing that merit and proper coaching are crucial in sports. “Meditation, alongside practice, plays an important role in sports. Platforms like Sansad Khel are valuable for students and athletes, and our government remains committed to eradicating the drug menace,” he concluded.
