The Tripura Cabinet has expressed profound sorrow over the sudden demise of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhyankar, who passed away in Agartala. The Cabinet members observed a two-minute silence during their meeting to pay homage to the late police chief and honour his distinguished service.

Remembering Dhyankar’s remarkable career, the Cabinet described him as a dedicated, disciplined and committed officer who made significant contributions to policing and public administration. A 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre, Dhyankar joined the state police in 1995 and served in various important positions before rising to the post of DGP.

During his career, Dhyankar handled several key assignments with professionalism and integrity. Apart from his service in Tripura, he also contributed at the national and international levels, including his association with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. He held important roles in institutions such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

For his outstanding service and dedication, Dhyankar was honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

The Cabinet stated that Tripura has lost an experienced police officer, an efficient administrator and a committed public servant whose contributions will always be remembered. The state government conveyed its deepest condolences to his family and prayed for peace for the departed soul.

As a mark of respect, the Tripura government has declared July 21, 2026, as a one-day state mourning day. The national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government buildings, and no official entertainment programmes will be held on the day.

According to reports, DGP Anurag Dhyankar was found deceased at the State Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday morning. Police sources stated that he was found inside the washroom of his chamber.
