The present state government has allocated a total of Rs 202 crore 56 lakh for the Home Department under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) project for infrastructural development of police stations, said Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha.
Dr. Saha, who is also the Home Minister of the state, said that the present state government has been giving utmost importance to the overall infrastructure development of the state and maintaining peace and order from the very beginning.
“As a result, rapid development is being observed in all areas, including education, health, and communication in the state. The importance of law and order in maintaining peace in the state is paramount. In keeping with the times, infrastructural development of the state's police stations has also become necessary. In this regard, special emphasis has been given to the modernization of the state police. Already, in the current fiscal year, the state government has allocated a total of Rs 202 crore 56 lakh for the Home Department under the Special Assistance for Capital Investment (SASCI) project. The money allocated for the project will be used to purchase a vehicle with a jammer, construct a multi-storey building for the West Agartala Police Station, construct a building for the East Agartala Police Station, and construct a building for the Belonia Police Station,” said Dr. Saha.
He further said that, in addition, new buildings will be constructed for Bagbasa Police Station in Dharmanagar, Madhupur Police Station in Sepahijala district, and Baikhora Police Station in Shantirbazar sub-division.
It is to be noted that out of the allocated amount, Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for the construction of police stations in rural areas, Rs 8 crore for the construction of police stations in urban areas, and the remaining amount will be spent on the construction of infrastructure for the two main police stations in the state, namely West Agartala Police Station and East Agartala Police Station.
“The Finance Department has already provided Rs 11 crore for this project,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha also reiterated his commitment to a zero-tolerance policy to create a drug-free society. “In this regard, instructions have been issued to the police to take immediate and effective action,” he said.
He expressed his opinion that it is necessary for the security administration to rise above party affiliations to maintain the rule of law throughout the state. “The police need immediate effective measures and improved infrastructure for modernization. Therefore, funds have been allocated for the infrastructural development of important police stations in the state under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme,” he added.
Currently, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, the path to long-term development of the state is being paved through proper planning and infrastructural development in all sectors.
