The Tripura State Election Commission has completed preparations for the Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28, with extensive security arrangements and deployment of polling personnel across the state.
Speaking on Saturday, State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen said polling would be held in 44 blocks at 1,095 polling stations, where around 6.65 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes. Although 1,550 polling stations were initially identified, contests will be held at 1,095 stations.
To ensure peaceful polling, 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed. The security forces will conduct area domination exercises, patrolling and other law-and-order measures during the election.
According to Sen, nearly 7,300 polling personnel have been assigned election duty. Material verification is being carried out at the block level on Saturday, while the movement of polling teams to their respective polling stations will begin from Sunday morning under security cover.
Sector officers have been directed to ensure the safe movement and arrival of polling teams at their designated locations. State police and other security personnel will accompany teams transporting ballot boxes and ballot papers.
Following the conclusion of polling on September 28, election officials will complete all statutory sealing procedures before depositing the election materials at receiving centres designated by the respective Returning Officers.
The Commission has also established 44 strong rooms and 44 separate counting halls, one for each block, for the safe custody of election materials and subsequent counting.
Meanwhile, preparations have also begun for the forthcoming Urban Local Body elections in the state.
Sen said the final list of polling stations for the urban polls has already been published. A total of 783 polling stations have been finalised based on notifications issued by the respective District Municipal Election Officers and District Magistrates and Collectors.
The electoral roll revision process will begin with publication of the draft electoral roll on October 1, 2026. Claims and objections can be submitted until October 8, while the final electoral roll will be published on October 15.
The SEC is proceeding with preparations for the Urban Local Body elections simultaneously with the final arrangements for the Village Committee polls.
