Tripura Police seized around 340 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup from a Hyundai car during a search at the Ambassa naka checkpoint on Saturday. The driver of the vehicle was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to police sources, around 100 bottles of Eskuf syrup were initially recovered from inside the vehicle’s wheel area during a search at the checkpoint. Following a more extensive search of different parts of the car, a large quantity of additional syrup was allegedly recovered. The total seizure was estimated at around 340 bottles.
The arrested driver has been identified as Akhilesh Rai, a resident of Patna, Bihar. The Hyundai car bearing registration number S01DN6909 has also been seized. Police reportedly recovered another number plate, WB02AK2526, which they described as unauthorised.
According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was travelling from Dharmanagar towards Agartala. During questioning, the name of a person from Kumarghat reportedly emerged, prompting police to investigate possible links to the suspected consignment.
Ambassa police have launched an investigation into the case. Officials are trying to ascertain the intended destination of the seized syrup and whether any other persons were involved in transporting the consignment.
