Assam witnessed an overwhelming display of public enthusiasm during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit, which marked significant milestones in the state’s development journey. 

The Prime Minister inaugurated the new terminal building of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and laid the foundation stone for the Namrup ammonia-urea fertiliser plant.

Calling the visit historic, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that the massive public participation across the state reflected a strong wave of confidence in the Centre’s development-driven governance. He noted that lakhs of people turned out to witness the Prime Minister dedicate major infrastructure and industrial projects to the state.

According to the Chief Minister, the initiatives underscore the Union government’s continued focus on improving connectivity and expanding industrial capacity in the Northeast. The newly inaugurated airport terminal, described as India’s first nature-inspired terminal, is expected to substantially increase passenger capacity and enhance air connectivity in the region.

The modern terminal is seen as a major boost for tourism, trade, and investment, strengthening Guwahati’s position as a key aviation hub for eastern India and the Northeast.

At the same time, the Rs 10,600 crore Namrup ammonia-urea fertiliser project is expected to play a vital role in meeting fertiliser demand in Assam and neighbouring states. The project aims to reduce dependence on imports, create employment opportunities, and reinforce the state’s industrial base.

CM Sarma said the scale of public response during the Prime Minister’s engagements demonstrated the people’s growing faith in the ongoing development process. He added that Assam is entering a new phase of growth, driven by robust infrastructure development, industrial expansion, and consistent support from the Centre.

Describing the recent developments as part of Assam’s broader growth story, the Chief Minister said the state is steadily progressing towards a future defined by peace, stability, and expanding economic opportunities.
