A sensational theft took place at the Bir Chandra Manu Krishi Vigyan Kendra under Shantirbazar Subdivision despite the presence of a night guard on duty. Miscreants allegedly broke into the office premises late on Saturday night and stole the department’s Bolero vehicle along with Gobindobhog rice, sewing machines, and several other items.
According to reports, the night guard noticed the incident and immediately informed the office authorities and the police over the phone. Acting swiftly, Officer-in-Charge of Manpathar Police Station, Jayanta Das, rushed to the spot and found the office window broken and several valuables missing, including the official vehicle.
On Sunday morning, Shantirbazar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bappi Debbarma visited the scene. Following a preliminary investigation, a forensic team was called in to collect evidence and begin a detailed probe.
In a major breakthrough within six hours of the theft, police recovered the stolen Bolero vehicle from the Mehendi area of Salema in Ambassa subdivision. During the operation, police also detained one suspect identified as Moharam Ali from the Kakraban area of Udaipur.
After receiving information about the recovery, both OC Jayanta Das and SDPO Bappi Debbarma reached the recovery site.
Speaking to the media, OC Jayanta Das said, “Several items, including the vehicle, were stolen. We have recovered the Bolero and detained one person named Moharam Ali from the Kakraban area. Interrogation is underway to recover the remaining stolen items and to determine whether others were involved in the crime.”
The incident has raised serious questions about security arrangements at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, especially since a night guard was reportedly on duty during the theft. Police are also investigating the role of the night guard as part of the ongoing inquiry.
