Tension and grief gripped the Sonatala area of Khowai on Wednesday after the body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from a waterbody near Jhilimili Park.

According to local residents, the woman’s body was noticed floating in the water, following which police were alerted. A team from the local police station soon arrived at the spot and recovered the body.

The deceased was reportedly a resident of the surrounding area. Police suspect that she may have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned, although the circumstances leading to her death remain unclear.

Following the recovery, the body was taken to Khowai District Hospital and subsequently placed in the mortuary. A post-mortem examination is expected to shed light on the exact cause of death.

Police have initiated an investigation and are examining all possible aspects of the incident to determine whether it was a case of accidental drowning or if any other circumstances were involved. The incident has left local residents shocked and saddened.
