Emphasizing that environmental protection goes beyond planting trees, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and Ramnagar MLA Deepak Majumder on Thursday called for collective efforts to ensure the survival and growth of newly planted saplings.
Addressing a tree plantation programme organized in Ward No. 35 of Ramnagar on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Mayor said that the true success of plantation drives depends on proper maintenance and long-term care of trees. He urged citizens to actively participate in preserving the environment and strengthening green cover across the city.
The plantation campaign was part of a statewide observance of World Environment Day, during which various awareness and afforestation programmes were conducted. The initiative also coincided with activities marking 12 years of the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Several community leaders and local residents joined the programme, including Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya and other prominent citizens. Similar plantation drives were held in different parts of Ramnagar and across the state.
In another event at Booth No. 7 under Ward No. 14, Ramnagar Mandal President Amitabh Bhattacharya led a plantation programme in the presence of Corporator Snigdha Das Deb, former Mandal President Tapas Kumar Deb and local party workers.
Speakers at the programmes highlighted the importance of expanding green spaces to combat climate challenges and maintain ecological balance. They noted that every planted sapling represents an investment in a cleaner and healthier future and appealed to residents to take responsibility for nurturing the trees planted during the campaign.
