In a major joint operation based on secret intelligence, law enforcement and security agencies today carried out a large-scale anti-narcotics drive in multiple locations under Sonamura Sub-Division.
The operation, conducted in morning covered the Dhanirampur ADC area, Bijoy Nagar ADC Village area, and Chagariya forest land.
During extensive searches in the forested areas, officials detected and destroyed 30 Ganja plantation plots and 2 nursery plots, spread over approximately 30 acres of land. In total, an estimated 2,50,000 (two lakh fifty thousand) Ganja plants were uprooted and destroyed on the spot.
The massive operation was a coordinated effort by Sonamura Police Station, 81 Battalion BSF (personnel from Batadola, Matinagar, Kulubari, NC Nagar, and Anandapur Border Out Posts), Forest officials from Boxanagar, Sonamura, and Jatrapur, along with forces from the 7th, 11th, and 14th Battalions of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
Officials stated that such drives are part of an intensified campaign to curb illegal narcotics cultivation and trafficking in border regions. The destruction of these plantations marks a significant blow to the local network involved in illicit Ganja cultivation.
Further investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the illegal plantations.
