Pradesh BJP leader and former Member of Parliament Rabati Tripura on Tuesday strongly criticized the nationwide bandh announced by Left Front–affiliated trade unions on February 12, calling it an effort to disrupt the country’s economy. He asserted that such a shutdown would not receive public support.

Addressing the media, Tripura said he was unclear about the concrete reasons behind the strike. While acknowledging that the Left-backed trade bodies have raised objections to the new VB G RAM G Act and certain labour-related matters, he argued that none of these demands would contribute to national development or economic growth.

“This kind of bandh is nothing new. They organize it every year merely to show their presence,” he remarked.

Tripura further pointed out that those claiming the bandh is meant to support farmers and workers should consider its actual impact. “A bandh brings all activities to a halt. Daily wage earners suffer the most because their work stops. Who really gains from this?” he questioned.

Emphasizing the government’s approach, the former MP said that both the central and state governments are implementing various schemes and reforms aimed at improving the lives of labourers and workers, including strengthening their economic security.

He concluded by stating that shutdowns are not a solution to issues and reiterated that the proposed bandh is an attempt to cripple the nation’s economy. “Such actions cannot be tolerated, and the people will reject it,” he added.
