A court in Khowai District, Tripura, has delivered a verdict in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, sentencing a local man to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000.

The judgment was pronounced on June 5, 2026, by the District & Sessions Judge of Khowai District Court. The convict, identified as Dipankar Das, son of late Dhanu Ranjan Das and a resident of Lalchara under Khowai Police Station limits, was found guilty under Sections 21(b), 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act.

According to police records, the case originated from Khowai Police Station Case of 2023 and was later registered as Special (NDPS) Case No. 14/2024. The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Ranjit Sarkar, who submitted the chargesheet (No. 09/2024 dated 31 March 2024).

After examining the evidence and completing the trial process, the court held the accused guilty and awarded the sentence. The judgment also stated that failure to pay the imposed fine would result in an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.
