A heartbreaking situation has unfolded in the Muslim Para of Kanchanmala under the Golaghati Assembly Constituency, where a family is battling severe hardship after the head of the household, Jamal Mia, was left bedridden following a serious head injury.
Jamal Mia, a daily wage laborer and sole breadwinner of his family, was found unconscious near Rose Valley Park in April.
He was rescued by fire service personnel and rushed to the hospital, where he received initial treatment at GB Hospital. Although discharged after a few days, Jamal Mia’s condition has since worsened.
He now suffers from memory loss and is unable to speak or recognize anyone, leaving him completely dependent on others for survival.
His wife, struggling to care for a disabled son and a daughter, is now facing the brink of starvation. She shared her anguish with local journalists on Wednesday, breaking down in tears as she described the grim condition of her husband and their desperate financial situation.
"Jamal Mia is no longer able to move or speak. He doesn’t even recognize us. We have spent all our savings on his treatment. Now we can’t even afford his medicines or basic necessities for our children," she said.
With no source of income and mounting medical expenses, the family’s situation has become critical. In a heartfelt appeal, Jamal Mia’s wife has sought urgent help from the state Chief Minister, requesting government intervention to provide medical assistance and restore hope for her family.
Local residents have expressed sympathy and called on the authorities to respond swiftly to this humanitarian crisis. "The government must step in and support this family. They are going through unimaginable suffering," said a neighbor.
