Agitating against the controversial VB G RAM G Act, the Left Front has announced a statewide protest campaign, with the CPI(M) taking the lead in challenging the Narendra Modi-led government’s labor policies.

At a press conference at the party’s state office, Jitendra Chaudhury, CPI(M) state secretary and Leader of the Opposition in Tripura, accused the BJP of attempting to dismantle one of India’s most significant employment guarantees.

“Since independence, MNREGA has been a lifeline for rural workers, ensuring 100 days of work per year. The Modi government has opposed it from day one, and in Tripura, the BJP’s mismanagement has crippled the program, hitting the rural economy hard,” Chaudhury said.

He further accused the government of attempting to erase Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the program, calling it “an extreme act of disrespect” and a politically motivated move to sideline a historic welfare legacy. While the government claims the new law will increase workdays from 100 to 125, Chaudhury dismissed the promise as “completely false,” citing years of unfulfilled assurances under MNREGA.

The Left Front has pledged to take its protest to every household in the state, putting the BJP on the defensive. The party is demanding:

  • Immediate repeal of the VB G RAM G Act

  • Reinstatement of MNREGA

  • Guarantee of 200 workdays per year

  • Wages of Rs 600 per worker

Chaudhury warned that the CPI(M) would escalate its campaign until these demands are met, signaling an intense political confrontation with the ruling party over labor rights and rural welfare.
