CM targets CPIM over Khetramohan School’s past as revamp gathers pace

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday stepped up his criticism of the CPIM, alleging that the previous government neglected Khetramohan School and failed to give adequate attention to the state’s education sector during its 35-year tenure.

Speaking during an inspection of the school at Shanti Para, Agartala, Dr. Saha said the government was now working to transform the long-neglected institution into a modern school with improved infrastructure and quality education.

The Chief Minister alleged that the school had remained without regular academic activities for years and claimed that the premises had effectively been used for purposes unrelated to education. He said the present government had decided to revive the institution and develop it as a quality educational centre.

Dr. Saha said the foundation stone had already been laid for a G+4 building, which will initially accommodate education up to Class VIII with 16 classrooms. The school will subsequently be upgraded up to Class XII.

The government also plans to introduce English-medium education and smart-class facilities, he said, adding that the institution should be developed to a standard comparable with Shishu Bihar School.

The Chief Minister said the construction agency had assured that the building would be handed over by January and directed officials to accelerate the work. Two lifts, each with a capacity of 15 persons, will also be installed.

Dr. Saha said the revived school could help reduce pressure on nearby schools while creating additional educational opportunities for children in the locality. The government is also examining road connectivity and possible land acquisition for the project.

Turning to current politics, the Chief Minister accused the opposition of raising allegations about urban development ahead of elections. He alleged that the CPIM and opposition leaders were attempting to mislead people, while citing ongoing development projects as evidence of the government’s work.

The inspection was attended by AMC Central Zone Chairman Ratna Dutta, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director of Education Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury and other officials.
