The death of lorry driver Mihir Lal Debnath has sparked a wave of anger and protest, with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) squarely blaming the BJP-led administration for what they termed as "utter negligence and administrative failure."

CITU leaders and supporters staged a demonstration in front of the West District Magistrate’s office today, demanding justice for the deceased and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

According to reports, Mihir Lal Debnath, a lorry driver from Dashda in the Kanchanpur sub-division, lost control of his cement-laden vehicle near Chakmaghat in Teliamura. Despite battling for his life for nearly six hours, the administration has failed to rescue him and he succumbed to his injuries inside the cabin of the truck.

Speaking at the protest, senior CITU leader and former minister Manik Dey lambasted the administration.

“This incident exposes the naked failure of the BJP-run government. Despite spending crores on disaster management and conducting mock drills across districts, the administration could not rescue even a single lorry driver in distress,” Dey alleged.

He further criticized the government for prioritizing publicity over preparedness.

“There are flashy advertisements and big-budget drills, but where was the system when a life could have been saved?” he questioned.

The protesting members demanded a high-level investigation into the incident and called for systemic accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.

CITU reiterated that unless stringent action is taken, the agitation will intensify in the coming days.
