The Government of Tripura has received national recognition for its continued efforts to promote transparent, efficient and technology-driven government procurement through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).

The state was conferred the "GeM Sustained Adoption” award during a programme organised at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi to mark the 10th anniversary of GeM.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal presented the recognition to Dr. Akinchan Sarkar, Additional Secretary of the Finance Department, Government of Tripura, who received the honour on behalf of the state.

The programme was attended by senior officials, including Commerce Department Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Telecommunications S. Krishnan, and GeM CEO Maher Kumar, besides representatives of the Central and state governments and other stakeholders associated with the public procurement ecosystem.

Tripura was selected for the recognition in view of the steady increase in procurement through the GeM platform and the proactive efforts of government buyers across various departments to make greater use of the platform’s digital procurement facilities.

The award is seen as an acknowledgement of Tripura’s efforts to strengthen transparency, efficiency and accountability in public procurement while leveraging technology to ensure better value for government expenditure.

The state government welcomed the recognition and said it would continue to encourage wider adoption of GeM across government departments. The initiative aims to further improve efficiency, transparency and value for money in the procurement of goods and services.

The recognition also highlights the growing role of digital platforms in modernising government procurement practices and ensuring a more transparent and competitive procurement process.
