The historic Neermahal Water Festival 2026 will be organised at Melaghar from October 7 to 9, with a mix of cultural programmes and traditional sporting events planned around the picturesque Rudrasagar Lake.
Preparations for the three-day festival gathered momentum on Thursday with a meeting held at the conference hall of the Melaghar Municipal Council. The meeting was chaired by Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, with officials from various government departments and local elected representatives in attendance.
The meeting discussed arrangements for the festival, including coordination among different departments and measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the programmes. Barman called upon the participating departments to extend their full cooperation and urged local residents to actively support the initiative.
This year's festival is expected to feature several traditional and recreational activities, including Manasamangal performances, boat races, swimming competitions and yoga events.
The Neermahal Water Festival is organised around the iconic Neermahal palace and Rudrasagar Lake, highlighting Tripura's natural landscape, folk traditions and cultural heritage. The event also seeks to showcase the longstanding relationship between the lake and the communities living in its surrounding areas.
The preparatory meeting was attended by Melaghar Municipal Council Chairperson Anamika Ghosh Pal Roy, Sonamura SDM Raju Deb, Deputy Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Panchali Debbarma, Tourism Department officials and representatives of other government departments.
With Neermahal and the blue waters of Rudrasagar providing the backdrop, the festival is expected to draw visitors and local residents for three days of cultural and sporting activities.
